Help choosing laptop
Ok, I really need to get a laptop and have been out of the PC area for a few months now so I'm out of date.
Is newegg.com still a good place to get one? Since the exchange rate for aussies are quiet good now I thought I'd get one soon. I just need help choosing one... my budget is around 800 US for this site ( maybe a little higher, but I need to be tight because I have to save money as I'm moving to Europe/germany next year), but I would like other peoples input to get the best bang for my buck. If there are better/cheaper sites, that are trusted, please let me know! I've had a look for myself, but I'm out of date-_-
I just need it to play GW, run photoshop and some other multimedia stuff, surf the net and use msn.
Well here's a list of what i'm looking at right now.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...N=20302 60032
Looking at this right now : http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16834220198
looks ok, just pushing my limit of money.... well, help needed cheaper the better
cheers

while I'm not a laptop fan or an asus/amd fan, all bias aside...
any vista OS system with 1 gb of mem is gonna hinder you. you'll find yourself prolly paying for more memory later on.
I'm not sure if you need a lappy but at those prices you can build yourself a pretty sweet desktop.
-on a side note, I'd go with a duo core. with at least 2gb ram (you'll love it when running PS)
-sorry I can't really help you..the lappy I like was a the HP for 2k+change.

I'm kinda in a hurry, so didn't check the links, so here goes:
1. RAM - at least 2GB on a Vista machine.
2. Video card - something by Nvidia or ATI, preferably w/dedicated memory (meaning it doesn't take memory from the main system).
3. A HDD that is rated at least at 7200RPMs. Anything less will be very noticeable, and even if you have to sacrifice drive capacity, remember that external storage is very easy and cheap to come by.
4. Screen size & ratio - now this is a very personal thing. I like a larger screen, and for gaming you are better off w/ a "normal 4:3" screen ratio. While widescreens are nice, they still aren't mainstream, and most games will not look right on them.
5. Get an external mouse - the included keyboard is fine, but trying to play any game w/ the touchpad is just a major PITA - very inexpensive but good to have.
You should be able to put together something nice for $800-$1000 US.

Don't worry too much about the hard drive; most laptops within your budget probably don't have a 7200RPM drive. Since you're playing GW, just pick a laptop with a Nvidia 7600/8600 or ATI 1600/2600. Whatever CPU that comes with the laptop should be decent enough (since it's unlikely you'll find a low end CPU with mid-range graphics). Make sure the you like the size and weight too.
Btw, newegg doesn't ship anywhere outside the US

head over to ibuypower.com Get it direct. Although I love Newegg, they are better for parts, not finished products.

You could always get a mac
EDIT: If you're picking a laptop over a PC I assume it's for taking it around with you. The reviews on the site say that the battery life is horrible.
Read some of the customer reviews and google the laptop, then make your decision.

Give the Dell Outlet a try: http://outlet.dell.com
My co-worker managed to get a 15" Inspiron 2.0ghz Core2Duo with 8600M-GT 256MB video card for $1000 even. The box was marked "scratch + dent," but the notebook itself was flawless out of the box. If you're on a tight budget, this is the site to get a laptop with good product support.

The video card doesn't seem that bad, mid-range by this sites standards.
But I'm much more informed about desktop PCs and not laptops

Here's what I'd take:
View Details
EP04MXDD Select
$1,049.00 Inspiron 1520 Jet Black Intel Core 2 Duo - 2200 Genuine Windows Vista Home Premium 15.4 120 GB SATA Hard Drive (5400 RPM) 2000KB RAM DVD/RW 256MB NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT Dell 1505 Wireless-N Notebook
The video card and CPU are probably the most important items to pay attention to. The sytem RAM, HD, and even the CPU can be replaced later, thought the GPU can be a pain...
Be warned... these systems move FAST. I don't expect the system above to still be there in a few hours.
